A destructive brush fire that started Friday afternoon and jumped across the 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass prompted mandatory evacuations, engulfed dozens of vehicles, burned homes and left motorists stranded on the roadway.
The fire continued to burn out of control thoughout the night and into the weekend.
As of Saturday morning, this is what has happened:
- 3,500 acres burned
- 5 percent contained
- 66 vehicles, including two semitrucks, burned and damaged
- 11 structures destroyed by flames, including three homes and eight outbuildings
- 1,000 firefighters working to contain the blaze
- Two motorists suffered minor injuries and treated at the scene
