Sensors detect Indonesian earthquake on the other side of the globe
Seismograms show earthquake 10,000 miles away
Mar 02, 2016
OKLAHOMA CITY —Seismographs in Oklahoma detected a wave frequency at 7:09 a.m. CT on Wednesday. This is about 20 minutes after a large 7.9 earthquake in the Indian Ocean.
The quake wave frequency wasn't strong enough to be felt 10,000 miles away, but sensitive in-ground seismographs are.
Based on the time it took the quake waves to travel to the other side of the globe, it suggests that the earthquake waves traveled about 30,000 mph.
