[Geology2] sweat lodge

a friend needs rock for a sweat lodge. he has been told that slate is a good rock for that. also igneous rocks such as volcanicic rock, but all that he can find for that is the lighter stuff full of holes. in my neck of the woods there is plenty of slate that is massive in that it is not in thin layers. it also is rich in calcium carbonate which i think would absorb water and cause it to explode. also there is plenty of serpentine in the glacial till here and i was wondering if that would be a good candidate.
