The same ‘logic’ that allows an infrastructure to dwindle until it’s too late to recover it. i.e. federal highway system, power grids, water supplies. The same “Let’s spend money like it doesn’t matter on fluff since it isn’t ours or real money anyway” attitude then encourages welfare and unemployment instead of individual responsibility.
The WWII planes that were in use until recently have (big surprise here) flown themselves into the ground. Parts haven’t been available for decades. So new(er) planes will have to be purchased, modified and put into service (that’ll take 3-5 years at least). Add into that noise that some folks are suing to stop aerial drops entirely (because they drop an ammonia based fertilizer) and it’s a total FUBAR.
I’d best not continue into a rant, I just paid my taxes (read that as MORE than I have already) grrrr.

My thoughts exactly... that is a meager ration indeed... what is the Executive and Legislative branches thinking in allowing the USFS fleet to dwindle to that small a fleet even as wildfires are becoming an ever-greater threat than we have ever seen for a variety of reasons?
