Re: [californiadisasters] Kit's "King Fire" Update For September 14, 2014

10% containment.  Winds will be shifting to the SW this evening or early tomorrow, which will push much of the fire back on itself.  BUT NOT ALL, so efforts are being made in the Mosquito/Georgetown and other areas still at risk.

The TFR was extended today to one mile north of French Meadow dam.  A strike team (structure group actually) was assigned to protect the structures at Hell Hole.

TFR = Temporary Flight Restriction - ordered by the Air Attack Officer.

"The latest stats on the "King Fire" are mind boggling. The fire burned about 43,000 acres on Wednesday ( 9-17) a traveled between 15-16 miles in heavy forest, fire was plume dominated and was dropping embers miles ahead of the Northeasterly moving fire.                                                                                        The head of the fire is now burning between the  Hell Hole Reservoir and French Meadows Reservoir and has or will cross onto the Tahoe National Forest.  A large 100 acre spot fire is now also burning on Chipmunk Ridge which is on the Tahoe National Forest.  Fire is now only about 10 miles from Squaw Valley and 20 miles from Truckee, Ca. Residents in Truckee have been advised to be on Evacuation preparation.                                                                Fire on Thursday ( 9-18) was tame compared to the explosive growth on Wednesday.  Today a heavy inversion and low cloud deck prevented air operations until late afternoon.  The hopes were that the fire would receive rain today but not know if that occurred.  Fire has grown by about another 4,000 acres on Thursday and is now 73,185 acres.  The authorities have arrested 37 year old Wayne Allen Huntsman of Pollock Pines who started the fire on Sunday ( 9-15).  Smoke continues to effect cities as faraway as Boise,ID.            Tankers reported working the fire:  #10,#40,#101,#131,#160,#911,#912.  P2V Tanker #43 may now be on this fire as well.  McClellan has been main reload base but Redding,Chico, Grass Valley and Columbia have also launched aircraft at times for this fire."
