It is important to note that tsunami run-up progs are generalizations that are useful for an overall sense of scale. However, there will be locales where wave energy will be amplified and conditions right at water's edge could be hazardous, especially at night with poor illumination. Just ask Crescent Beach from several years ago and Santa Cruz Harbor in 2011.

Not to dimish the seriousness of the tsunami warnings but NWS is reporting swells in the neighborhood of 2 to 3 feet for the next couple of days with the earthquake caused wave surge contributing very little to it. I would still be wary but looks like we dodged a bullet here.

       There have already been damaging run-ups
along the Chilean Coast. There will absolutely be abnormal
tidal action in CA harbors so heads up, gang! Also remember
that a trio of foolish men walked down to the beach at Mad
River Inlet along coastal Del Norte County to view the 2011
Pacific-wide Tsunami. Two were overwhelmed and one of them
killed. Don't any if you earn a Darwin Award tomorrow
morning!
