2007: Strong gusty winds of 45 to 65 mph blew in the Kern County desert causing blowing dust.
This created sharply reduced visibilities resulting in numerous accidents on roads.
On Highway 58 near Mojave, two people died when dust dropped visibility to near zero in two separate accidents.

2004: This was the last day with no measurable rain in San Diego since 4.17, a streak of 182 consecutive days of no
measurable rain, the longest on record.

1999: Powerful Diablo Winds raked Northern California during which time a number of fires began and driven by the winds burned much acreage and property and threatened thousands of homes.
In the Redding area the Jones Fire burned 26,202 acres, 128 homes and 300 outbuildings and one firefighter was killed.
In Cache Creek Canyon in Yolo County the "16" Fire began along Hwy 16 and made a long run all the way down to the northern reaches of Lake Berryessa.
The Vargas Fire began in the Sunol Grade area and driven by winds burned 900 acres in the hills above Fremont.

1984:  7" of snow fell at Virginia City, NV.

1971: 
4" of snow fell at Carson City, NV.

1971: Mt. Laguna recorded its earliest measurable snowfall of the season on record.

1969: Saint Helena received 1.7" of rain.

1967: A daily record low of 16° F was set at Carson City, NV.

1965: The morning low temperature at Reno, NV was 18° F.

1963: A funnel cloud was sighted 10 miles southeast of Bakersfield.

1960: Strong gusty winds blew down trees in the Sierra and caused blowing sand in the Kern deserts.
Two people died in Yosemite after being struck by trees.

1958: It was 106° F in Santa Ana, the highest temperature on record for October.
