Shake, rattle and roll...major earthquakes are always a hot topic throughout the world. And now, the California State Capitol Museum invites the community to step back in time to experience a re-enactment of California's "Big One" -- the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. Don't miss the special opportunity to revisit the earth-moving experience and learn from the past. Visitors will be surrounded by docents in period attire re-creating the memorable scenes and moments of the recovery efforts that include local dignitaries as they provide assistance to refugees -- many of whom camped out on the Capitol grounds or at Sutter's Fort -- and Sacramento women who aid Bay Area families in need of meal by providing tickets, clothing and blankets. And, guests will be close-at-hand when then-California Governor George Pardee receives an important telegram -- not a text, email or phone call -- from President Theodore Roosevelt offering a staggering sum of $1 million for disaster relief. In addition, a short 3-D film depicting the 1906 earthquake will be streaming all day in the State Capitol basement theater (across from the North elevators) and guests will be provided special 3-D glasses for proper viewing. This is one special event all Californians can appreciate; for more information, call 916-324-0333 or visit www.capitolmuseum.ca.gov. |
