[californiadisasters] Emergency Down Unda

This is a one time announcement to pass along some information that isn’t getting wide coverage in the US.  It is not a CA or US emergency (other than one of our mods lives near there, he’s safe).  This is NOT opening the door for other worldwide events, but this one is a ‘biggie’ that merits our attention and help.  Our rules have not changed.

 

The greater part of Queensland Australia is suffering through ‘100 year floods’ much like we have had hit here (and will again).  The affected area is VAST, akin to France AND Germany combined, or from mid-Oregon to San Diego.  While they are getting some supplies through, some basic needs are not being met (clothing, ‘nappies’ and such).  Many are still homeless, some are dead or unaccounted for.  Loss of homes, businesses and infrastructure is off the scale.  Like all emergencies of this nature, it’s a large collection of smaller, local situations.

 

We, the mods and owners, encourage you to at least Google for more local info (one such link is offered below) so you can understand the complete and total devastation our friends are struggling with.  This will cripple or at least severely impact their budget, for years to come and it will be decades for full recovery.  Until you see the images, you can’t grasp the severity of the events there.

 

Should you be complacent, this can easily happen here and we’ve had similar but smaller situations.  There is nothing to stop it from happening on an equal scale here. Ditto the events in Haiti which we have discussed before.  IT CAN HAPPEN HERE TOO.

 

They’ve helped us in our time(s) of need (during the fire storms a few years ago, they sent air tankers and staffing), now it’s OUR turn to help.  Should you be inclined to offer assistance (they need volunteer workers too), the Red Cross, as always is a good choice for donations.  They are also working with Rotary International (yes, a ‘club’) for monetary support.   Your place of worship may also have direct ties for aid.  Any little bit can help.  We’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with them before, it’s time to do so again.

 

Please, pay attention.  There is a lot to learn from this for our state and country.  It’s a chance to help our Ozzie friends down unda.  Please help.
