On This Date In California Weather History....

2007: Offshore winds started on 1.5 and continued peaking each morning until 1.8.
Winds gusted to 84 mph at Fremont Canyon, 64 mph at Rancho Cucamonga, 63 mph at El Cariso, 62 mph at Rialto and 55 mph at Ontario.
Downed power poles, tree limbs resulted.
Trees fell on to homes and cars in Lake Arrowhead.

2003: Very widespread Santa Ana winds blew on this day and ended on 1.7.
A gust of 100 mph was measured at Fremont Canyon, 90 mph in Ontario, 80 mph in Upland, 72 mph in Trabuco Canyon, 70 mph in Riverside, 58 mph at Miramar.
Two died and 11 were injured.
Widespread property damage resulted, as well as road closures, power outages, downed trees, wildfires, and crop damage.

2000: Santa Ana winds started on 1.5 and ended on this day.
Wind gusts of 93 mph were recorded at Fremont Canyon, 60 mph in Ontario and 58 mph in Devore.
Interstate 15 was closed.

1997: Storm winds on 1.5 and on this day produced a gust of 99 mph at Fremont Canyon and 58 mph elsewhere.

1993: A very wet series of storms that began on this day and ended on 1.18 produced 20 to 50 inches of precipitation in the mountains and up to 12 inches at lower elevations over a two week period.
It was one of the longest periods of consecutive days of rain on record (13) and measurable rain fell nearly every day from 1.2 to 1.19.
Flooding and flash flooding, mud slides, etc., resulted.
This day marked the start of 14 consecutive days (the most on record) of measurable precipitation in Santa Ana, Escondido and Big Bear Lake which ended on 1.19.

1992: A storm that started on 1.5 and ended on 1.7 brought one to two inches of rainfall to the lower elevations.
Six to 20 inches of snow fell in the mountains and two to eight inches fell in the foothills and high desert floors.
Flooding and mud slides resulted.

1978:
A tornado hit Costa Mesa.

1977: From January 5th through the 6th, a system deposited 8 inches of snow at China Lake NAS and Randsburg, with just 1.5 inches logged at Inyokern.

1959: 19.0 inches of snow fell at Donner Memorial State Park.

1950: It was 22° in Santa Ana, the lowest temperature on record.
This also occurred on three consecutive days: 12.31.1918, 1.1.1919, and 1.2.1919.

1947: Fresno recorded its' coldest maximum ever in the month of January, 35 degrees.
(This has also been recorded on January 3, 1961, January 4, 1961, January 5, 1961 and January 22, 1962).

1913: The coldest weather on record gripped San Diego County on this day and on 1.7.
In San Diego the morning low temperature on this day was a record low 28° and the high temperature was an all-time record low maximum of 45°.
On 1.7 the low temperature was 25°, the lowest temperature on record.
On 1.7 low temperatures were 4° in Campo, 9° in Cuyamaca, 13° in Alpine , 15° in Julian and Lakeside, 20° in El Cajon, 22° in Lemon Grove, 24° in La Mesa, and 26° in Chula Vista.
Obviously, a killing freeze occurred all over San Diego County and many crops and fruit were lost.
Water pipes were frozen, trolley lines were disrupted and fishing nets were made unusable.
There was ice skating in a San Diego fountain on ice 0.75 inch thick.

1913: Fresno set its all-time low of 17 degrees.

1910: Lovelock, NV, had a morning low of -10.
