Re: [californiadisasters] Pisgah Crater

I so agree with Kim. This is such a bad hoax. Anyone who has ever been out there and has seen Pisgah crater knows that it's being "mined" for its basalt, as it produced mostly aa lava about 8,000-10,000 years ago. It's no longer  near as well formed as Amboy, which by the way, is considered dormant by USGS and not extinct.

Locals take advantage with that information and about every 10 years, some jerks will take some tires out to Amboy, set them on fire, and fool folks into thinking, as they pass along on Route 66, that there is an ongoing eruption. Geez, even I could think of a better practical joke than that.

Nothing on EDIS, USGS, WildCAD, CHP, or any other reputable site, that I can see.  Maybe it will go viral.

On Facebook there are people posting this link about Pisgah Crater erupting:

It might be a hoax. The couple of sites reporting it are kinda wacknut sites. Has anyone here heard anything? We are not that far from Barstow here and have not seen or heard anything. Seems like it would be local news here.
