I'm still pissed off that my husband held me on the bed because he thought I was going to run. I mean, if you heard someone shouting out, Woo-hoo! and Yeah, baby! at the sound of the first explosive boom, would you think they were going to run? All I wanted to do was to surf it out on my two feet. Wouldn't have hurt a thing. Yeah. Yeah. I know. Not supposed to do that, but it was my first large quake.

The epicenter of the quake was located about 50 miles east-southeast of Barstow, CA.
The quake was caused by a bilateral rupture mostly along the Lavic Lake Fault but a little bit on the Bullion Fault, too, for a total of about 40 kilometers.
There was surface fault rupture but fortunately the area where this occurred was in a lightly populated area and entirely contained within the Twenty-Nine Palms Marine Corps Base.
