VVHS Senior Class President, Brooke Jorgensen, is organizing a clothing bank for students at Volcano Vista High School. This has been in the planning stages for many months.
She decided to help organize the "Hawk Closet" because of my experience as a child (I'm her mom) when I only had one pair of pants and 2 shirts to wear to school. I told her how I had to hand wash my clothing every night just to be somewhat presentable. It was a very sad and humbling time in my life. There are students in our community whose families struggle financially and the "Hawk Closet" aims to help those students out. Students should have the basic necessities such as clothing so they can concentrate on learning and participating in school events.
We would like parents and students to start gathering gently used clothing. We also welcome your coats, formal dresses, and accessories (belts, jewelry, ties, etc.). We hope to collect items within the next month.
This is an ongoing project so clothes will be welcome throughout the school year. Please make sure clothing donations are CLEAN and ADHERE TO THE SCHOOL DRESS CODE.
She welcomes any cash donations as we will need to purchase additional shelving and racks to display the clothing and accessories. Checks may be made out to VVHS Parent Advisory with the subject line "HAWK CLOSET." You may mail the checks to the school:

We hope to begin accepting clothing donations on December 3rd. I will send an email reminder when we get closer. Here's where the project stands as of today:
- The VVHS administration has provided a large storage room that will eventually house the clothing bank. We are waiting for APS to re-key the lock and get us a key to this room as can only go during school hours until 3:30 PM until we get a key.
- She is working with a fellow student to get help cleaning out the room and procuring donations.
- She has spoken to the VVHS Parent Advisory and the VVHS Fashion Club about helping in various capacities.
- Brooke spoke with the manager of a local clothing store that recently relocated and got 4 rolling hanging clothing racks (but we need more!).
- A local radio station has asked her and some friends to guest DJ to garner support from the community.
- She will try to get local dry cleaners to donate hangers.
- Brooke started a Facebook Group about her project: https://www.facebook.com/messages/29004205#!/groups/184629008339828/
If you have questions, or suggestions, feel free to respond to this email. Thank you so much for helping us help our students!
