Actually, you are closer to the truth than you realize... nuns are former mafiasos:

And Lin, Galileo sould not be rolling over in his grave right now... he recognizes his old home quite well... so little has changed since his time! ;-p
Yes. I've read a lot about Calvi. How I found out about him was via an Italian friend who has to live within a corrupt system. He told me about the money laundering that occurs and how the Church rules the government just as it did in the Dark Ages. There is little to no difference between Vatican official and mafia member, except for the spelling, and unless you can fly under the radar, you might find yourself owing someone more than you ever wanted to pay.
These geologists are scapegoats-diversions to draw attention away from the real problem in that country. Galileo should be rolling over in his grave about now.

I bet you never heard of Roberto Calvi, nicknamed "God's Banker", the head of the Bank of Ambrosiano who was found hanging from a London bridge back in 1982 with bricks in his pockets.
The judiciary ruled it a suicide.Wow, yeah right! Why did the Vatican compensate Ambrosiano's account holders with a quarter BILLION to make them go away without admitting any wrongdoing? Now the global banking collapse has lead to this new item a few months ago...Yeah Lin I think you nailed the ugly moral problems that still exists in Italy where a half dozen geologists would be blamed for an earthquake and then sent to prison. On Oct 22, 2012, at 10:29 PM, Lin Kerns <linkerns@gmail.com> wrote:
I would add that that the corruption runs through Italy, not only through their judicial system, but their unethical method of doing business, as well as through the Church.
