Now 35%, backfiring ops continue, lines being strengthened, aircraft on scene. As long as the winds hold off, looking pretty good.

"Fire has now burned 87,590 acres with 18% containment. Fire continues to burn in very steep rugged inaccessible areas of the South Fork of the American River, Rubicon River and Silver Creek . Winds are forecast over the next 48 hours which will increase fire growth, today ( 9-22 ) down canyon winds pushed the fire over fire lines in the Rubicon Drainage. A large spot fire burning East of French Meadows Reservoir on the Tahoe National Forest has been hit hard with helicopter drops when able and is now mostly contained. The North head of the fire remains the most active and continues to burn between French Meadows Reservoir and Hell Hole Reservoir, sadly 10 homes have now been reported lost as well as 22 other structures. Tankers have been grounded for the most part on Monday as the inversion over the fire has been bad. McClellan ( Sacramento ) and Chico remain the primary bases for Tanker operations. Smoke today in the Tahoe Basin , Carson City and Reno was the worst since last Wednesday as visibility was down to just over a mile in most areas."--Check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/californiadisasters/
