Notes:		On this date in 1987, the Los Angeles Basin was rocked by a rather strong earthquake with an epicenter in Whittier Narrow Recreation Area and caused by the rupture of the previously unrecognized Puente Hills Thrust Fault System. The quake measured M5.9 and killed eight and caused $358 million in damage. Three days later a scary M5.3 aftershock jolted the San Gabriel Valley once again killing one person.
