Both directions of Highway154 have re-opened but county roads in the area including Painted Cave remain closed just north of Santa Barbara in the San Marcos Pass area. New Hwy 154 X Painted Cave Rd, San Marcos Pass area, Santa Barbara County Jurisdiction (FRA) Incident is unified Command (USFS Los Padres, Santa Barbara Co Fire). Per IC 25 + acres and holding. Change in acreage as fire mapped Retardant around head & shoulders, working flanks &heal of fire HWY 154 remains closed, Structure protection in place. An evacuation order issued by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's department for approximately 40- 50 homes in Painted Cave community. A large animal shelter established at Earl Warren show grounds Red cross shelter established for residents at Wake Center, 300 turnpike Rd Santa Barbara. Motorists are advised to use Highway 101 as an alternate route in and out of Santa Barbara There are weather forecasts for increasing winds this evening, anticipate poor recovery overnight

Structures threatened near painted cave rd. Media reporting that N/B HWY 154 closed along with several other road closers. Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department ordered evacuations for residents of of Painted Cave rd. Last fire history in area was the Paint fire in 1990. |
