Re: [Geology2] Webster S.O. confirms bunker explosion at Camp Minden - KSLA News 12 Shreveport, Louisiana News Weather & Sports

I was fortunate to see one fall up close and personal. At first I thought it was coming down on my head and since my knees were shaking, I couldn't move. But it swerved to my right at the last few seconds. The  heat from it was so intense that it slid along in the air, parallel to the ground. It was so close that I felt the heat and heard it sizzling like bacon in a pan. The fireball lit up the area that night like it was noon. Later that  day, I couldn't find it, but I know the general area where it went so one day I hope to take a metal detector out there. Another fell about 5 miles away in a farmer's pasture that night and I have a chunk of that, so I know what to look for.

I can answer your query, Allison. That night, I wanted nothing to do with it, but the next day I wanted to go find it. When you come so close to getting squished by a chunk of space rock the size of a VW Beetle,  you count your blessings and spend the next few hours in shock. LOL I thought I was going to have terminal codfish mouth from the incident. :-)

What are the chances a meteor hitting Louisiana Army Munitions Depot near Minden denoting a bunker?

Bizarre if true!

Webster S.O. confirms bunker explosion at Camp Minden - KSLA News 12 Shreveport, Louisiana News Weather & Sports

WEBSTER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -The Webster Parish Sheriff's Office confirms an underground bunker exploded late last night at Camp Minden. There are no reports of any injuries or deaths. The explosion site was discovered right at sun-up.
Chief Deputy Bobby Igo says the bunker belongs to a company called Explo. Authorities said they would have more information at a 9 a.m. news conference at Camp Minden, but that news conference was postponed until 11 a.m.
Igo says the underground bunkers are designed to send any blast up instead of out to lessen the shock wave impact.
State Police, the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office and the military will investigate exactly what happened.
Earlier in the morning, Sheriff Gary Sexton said there was a "possibility that a meteor did hit the ground" in the area, but deputies had not pinpointed an exact location.
KSLA News 12 viewer Shana Levick tells us she was driving on I-20 by Dixie Inn when she saw the sky light up a bright orange color.  She said she could see what appeared to be small fire sparks above the tree lines.
Another witness near Dixie Inn told KSLA News 12 photographer Cody Jennings that he saw something flash across the sky streaming from the west or southwest direction.  That witness also reported seeing a bright flash that lasted for a while.
Late last night and into this morning, we began hearing from people who heard the explosion just before 11:30 p.m. from areas including: Minden, Doyline, Haughton, South Bossier and Shreveport.  Callers are also reporting seeing a bright light flash in the sky when they heard the boom.
This story is developing. We will update this story as we learn more.
