Notes: | On this date in 1934 following heavy rains in the San Gabriel Mountains, walls of water and debris rampaged down steep canyons and into small communities at the base of those mountains along the northern margin of the Crescenta Valley killing over 100 people in La Crescenta, La Canada, and Montrose and damaging or destroying hundreds of homes and automobiles. In one particularly tragic incident, a wall of water tore into a Red Cross shelter located in an American Legion Hall killing 25 men, women, and children.
