(10-13) 08:38 PDT San Francisco, CA (AP) --
The National Park Service is banning smoking and cooking fires at several of its San Francisco Bay area parks in response to a heightened fire danger.
The National Park Service says the restrictions at Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area that were imposed on Tuesday will continue through Wednesday.
Smoking on all park trails is prohibited as is the use of charcoal grills. The Mount Wanda trail at John Muir National Historic Site in Contra Costa County will also be closed.
The restrictions come after the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning until 6 a.m. Wednesday. An excessive heat warning remains in place as temperatures are expected to again climb into the mid-90s in parts of the Bay area.
