Tornadoes spotted in Butte County
The National Weather Service has extended a tornado warning for Butte County until 7:30 p.m.
The NWS is tracking two tornados in the area that have been confirmed by photographs, eyewitness reports and video footage from local television stations, said meteorologist Kathy Hoxsie.
As of about 6:45 p.m., one tornado was just south of Chico and crossing Highway 99, heading in the general direction of Paradise, Hoxsie said.
The second was over the city of Durham and was heading in an easterly direction, Hoxsie said.
It appeared to be the stronger tornado of the two, she said.
The weather service had not heard of any damage, likely because the tornados were mostly passing over open and wet terrain, Hoxsie said.
The Butte County Sheriff's Department received no reports of damage.
