(08-24) 06:01 PDT AMERICAN CANYON --
The earthquake that rolled through the Bay Area and beyond early Sunday is suspected of being centered on the West Napa Fault, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
A network of seismographs in the Northern California seismic system maintained by the USGS and UC Berkeley recorded a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 for the quake and indicated it first ruptured the ground at a depth of 6.7 miles - typical for quakes in the Bay Area.
The quake struck 3 miles northwest of American Canyon, but its precise epicenter remained uncertain. The USGS tweeted that "there's no exact determination of the causative fault, though the Browns Valley section of the West Napa Fault is suspected."
