[californiadisasters] Showers, Lightning Expected in Bay Area

Showers, lightning expected in Bay Area

Updated 9:59 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012

(09-05) 09:24 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Residents of the Bay Area could see wind, showers and even a little lightning when the remnants of Baja tropical storm arrive around noon Wednesday, forecasters said.

The loose ends of tropical storm John are spinning just 125 miles southwest of San Francisco and heading northeast, said Steve Anderson, forecaster with the National Weather Service.

"You might see something around noon, midday; lightning and some light sprinkles," Anderson said, adding that there have already been five lightning strikes over the Pacific in the last hour.

The unstable sub tropical air will scatter showers and lightning from Santa Rosa to Monterey, Anderson said.

"Some people see sun and nothing else, some people see some sun and a few showers, some people might see lightning," Anderson said. "It'll be really hit and miss across the region."

The weather should last through the night, Anderson said.
