Roughly 225 Sacramento public and private schools educating about 100,000 students fall within the area that is likely to flood every 200 years, according to a Sacramento Bee review of city of Sacramento and federal data. Roughly 250 Sacramento elderly care homes and nursing homes, most of them small residential homes, fall within the 200-year floodplain. Those homes serve about 5,000 elderly residents.

This map shows the 200-year floodplain, in light blue, along with the Sacramento's schools, in dark blue, and its elder care homes, in red.
