From the pages of the Redding Record-Searchlight 50 years ago today:

California's civil defense chief, Allan K. Jonas, wants to move the regional headquarters of the California Disaster Office from Chico to Redding. "I know Chico won't like it, but Redding has more state employees and a more central location to all points in the region," Jonas said.
