Powerful earthquake strikes southern Mexico

7.1-magnitude quake centred 35 km west-southwest of the city of Tapachula



An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 rattled southern Mexico on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was centred 35 km west-southwest of the city of Tapachula in the state of Chiapas at a depth of about 75 km.
