Yesterday, a vehicle fire spread into vegetation (initially grass and oak woodland but subsequently into brush fields and stands of pine) in the area east of Highway 49 northeast of Plymouth, CA, in Amador County in California's Mother Lode Country. It is straddling the Cosumnes River Canyon and threatens hundreds of homes and some wineries. Five homes have been destroyed as well as seven outbuildings. This could become a disastrous fire of historic proportions depending largely on what happens or does not happen today.
