Nothing thrusts a flaming stick up my ass more than shit-stirring which is what Steve did so he is now on moderation.
Furthermore, right up there on the list just below Yahoo Groups Rule #1 (NEVER argue with a moderator) is the one that says leave the moderating to the moderators.... kapeesh, Steverino?
This state has a long history of civil unrest going back to the lynch mobs in the gold fields and later on lynchings of blacks and even whites in SoCal as recently as in the early 20th Century. There was much labor unrest in the later part of the 19th century and well into the first half of the 20th Century at various times in the Port of Los Angeles and the Ports of San Francisco and Oakland. There have also been bombings (think of the LA Times bombing or the LAX bombing) as well as the Zoot Suit riots of the World War Two era as well more recently the Watts Riots, the Isla Vista Riots, Cal Poly Riots, and LA Riots of 1994.
However, neither do we wish to address every single suspicious package or illegal assembly about to be read the Riot Act.
A good rule of thumb is to wait to post about civil unrest until after the first police car is overturned or the first bus is burning... or the LA Lakers have just won another NBA Championship.
Given there are over 1,500 members here we recognize that there are many different personalities and minds here and given that array of humanity not everyone is going to interpret our guidelines precisely the same way so we effort ourselves to be flexible and reasonable even while maintaining list order.
Speaking of list order, Louis, this group is allegorical of the State of California in general: given the relatively large population things can't be as loose as if the population were small or else there would be utter anarchy.
A state like Montana can afford to have stretches of road with virtually no speed limit and few guns laws but a state like California where there are nearly 40 million people, most of whom live bunched together, and many of them are not even culturally Americanized we as a state can ill-afford to play it fast and loose or we would function much like that quasi-"failed state" adjacent to our south.
It's not about being tight-assed but about creating as pleasant a Yahoo Groups experience as possible and to do that folks can't all be doing their own thing because this group is known for being especially posting-economical with as little background noise as possible. The discussion group is for the chatter and banter and for stuff that is not entirely on-topic.
Der Gruppe Oberfuhrer
Exactly my point and I'm often critical of how this list is often too "moderated" to begin with.
For a state known for it's liberal view there sure as hell seem to be a bunch of tight asses here.
Oh wait my bad (as if I'd givens damn).
