[californiadisasters] Re: Acom System Chosen for L.A. Co’s New Metro Fire Comm Center

Interesting development, Sounds good!
In my Massachusetts city we have had a Motorola trunked system for over 20 years IIRC and it works great. Started with System 1 and now on a variant of System 2. I was so used to it that when 9/11 happened I had a bit of a problem understanding the interoperability problems in NYC as i was so used to our system I assumed a big city like NYC would have something similar.

I note that they are going to use the MPT 1327 system which is sort of the European interface standard. Of course it will be APCO P25 as I would presume UASI or other DHS funding is being used for this. IIRC MPT 1327 is an open standard so equipment from several manufacturers will be available. Of course Zetron is a subsidiary of Kenwood, the big Japanese manufacturer. Never used Kenwood commercial equipment but their Amateur Radio stuff is great.

Best of luck with this project. Sure there will be teething problems but will be helpful in the end.
