RE: [californiadisasters] South Ops News & Notes Update (08/12/11-5:30PM)



With the prevailing winds blowing the smoke into the Yosemite Valley.  Much of that ridge burned in the last ten years, but maybe the smoke will stop folks from doing stupid things there for a while (14 deaths this year alone, a record).  Nah, that won’t happen.

Avalanche Fire The fire is now 745 acres. 0% contained. Fire will continue to back down to Glacier Point Road from El Portal overlook to the west towards Chinquapin. On the south flank, fire will back down into Indian Creek and the Old Glacier Point Road. Smoke impacts have increased due to the current weather pattern that will persist for the next few days. Poor smoke dispersion through the weekend.
