With .shp files, you need a program that's free to download called ArcView GIS Version 3.x. I've downloaded it and used several databases with it.
MDB files use Access, but it's not much to see there except data.
I still like the .kmz files the best, as all you do is download them, unzip if necessary, then click on them to view in Google Earth.
