[californiadisasters] Smallpox Was in CA As Recently As a Century Ago



From the pages of the Redding Record-Searchlight:

In 1912: There were 10 cases of smallpox in Redding. Four homes were under quarantine and others were under observation. No one had the remotest idea where the contagion came from. None of the cases was serious and as usual in late years, the disease was in a mild form. The cases were in the area of Oregon and Butte streets.
