Congratulations to this week's students that were recognized for demonstrating the core values of our school Safety, Organization, Achievement and Respect.  Way to SOAR!   Also, remember you can turn in SOAR cards for merchandise every Friday at the SOAR store in H Hall near DECA Store.  The following are the six students that were randomly drawn for our weekly prize:

  • Gloria Flores – Recognized by Mrs. Stewart
  • Danielle Santillanes – Recognized by Mr. Francour
  • Gabby Sanchez – Recognized by Mrs. Kennedy
  • Molly Tahin – Recognized by Mrs. Corkern
  • Sislai Hechavaria – Recognized by Mrs. Troup

This week's winners receive Hawk Spirit Wear.

Volcano Vista fielded three mock trial teams at the regional tournament in Albuquerque this weekend. Our platinum team, consisting of Candance Morrison, Aubie Knell, Jane Nguyen, Lena Guidi, Hayley Stueber, Sonja Fullilove, and Erin Burkett, went 3-1 to qualify for the state tournament in March--and hopefully defend our state title! The team was also wildly successful in the individual awards categories. Taking five out of the twelve outstanding witness awards were: Lena Guidi--who received the nomination as top witness in all four of her rounds--along with Alex Lioce, Marissa Cantu, Harper Gamble, and Gay Baker. Additionally, Candace Morrison, Breanna Gonzales and Michael Sanchez all took home outstanding attorney awards. We wish the team good luck in both the upcoming University of New Mexico Invitational Tournament, and the State Tournament!

Any student interested in taking the ASVAB stop by B154 (the ROTC room) to sign up. The test will be given on Tuesday, March 5th in the Lecture Hall from 7:30 to 11.

The Best Buds Basketball tournament is underway. Meet at the main gym to see your team and where you play. Everyone is invited to watch! The finals will be played at the assembly on Friday, March 8th. That's next Friday.

This week is Spread the Word to End the Word week. Across the world, people are pledging to stop using the words retard or retarded. Many people use the R-word in a hurtful and derogatory way. Be a part of something big and promote respect by pledging to not use the r-word. People are making their pledges in front of the gym during lunch this week.

National Honor Society Potential Members: If you received an invitation to join National Honor Society or renew your membership for next year, remember that your completed application must be returned to E203 or to Mrs. Jones' mailbox no later than March 8th. Late applications are not accepted. Acceptance letters and invitations to the NHS Induction Ceremony and Dinner will be sent out after SBA testing week.
