[californiadisasters] Quake Survival Supplies, Kits Flying Off The Shelves

Quake Survival Supplies, Kits Flying Off The Shelves

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Earthquake survival tools and kits are flying off the shelves since Friday’s 5.1-magnitude temblor centered in La Habra.

KCAL9’s Crystal Cruz reported that some quake supplies, such as tools to shut off gas valves, were few and far between at a Home Depot in Riverside.

“Right now they’re in high demand,” a worker said.

The Grab ‘n Go! Emergency Backpack in the earthquake preparedness section was also a popular item.

“It was packed. This shelf was full. We probably had about 20 to 30 units up here and now we just have about six or seven left,” Home Depot employee Brian Dunn said.

There were still plenty of flashlights, glow sticks and water, however, at the home improvement store.

Customer Tim Bailiff said he’s thinking about getting prepared for a large quake.

“[We have an idea of what we might do.] We kind of have a little bit of an escape plan, but we don’t really have a huge supply of things like we probably should,” he said.
