[Geology2] SLO's ancient volcanic peaks are the photogenic subject of new book

SLO's ancient volcanic peaks are the photogenic subject of new book

Everyone's heard of the seven sisters, a chain of hills dividing the Chorro and Los Osos Valley that provide some of the most iconic views in San Luis Obispo County.

Well, guess what? It turns out there are actually nine. (Though seven sisters does sound a bit catchier.) In his new, self-published book, The Nine Sisters: A Rare Alignment of Ancient Volcanic Peaks, San Luis Obispo-based Cuesta College professor Tony Hertz displays his breathtaking black and white shots of the nine sisters, an ancient chain of volcanic peaks extending from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay.

"This book project is about appreciating and preserving the natural grandeur and beauty of this San Luis Obispo landscape," Hertz said. "I worked to make photographs of these mountains in their most natural state possible."

This photo book is available online for purchase at tonyhertz.com and costs $30 to $95 depending on which edition you select.
