2014: Strong high pressure and a strong late-season Santa Ana wind event combined to bring record high temperatures exceeding 100° F to most of the lower elevations from this day to 5/15.
Many all-time high temperature records for the month of May were broken.
On this day temperatures soared into the 90s across the region.
The hottest day was 5/15 whenit was 106° in Yorba Linda and the San Diego Wild Animal Park.
The strong Santa Ana winds gusted to 40 to 45 mph in parts of the coast and valleys, and 60 to 80 mph in the foothills.
The winds knocked down many trees and power lines, and blew off some roof tiles.
Numerous fires erupted especially in San Diego County, burning over 27,000 acres and causing more than $50 million in property damage.
The Poinsettia fire in Carlsbad and the Cocos Fire in San Marcos damaged homes,
but no serious injuries or deaths resulted.

1999:
Strong sustained winds of 61 mph were measured at Borrego Springs, causing roof and tree damage.

1998: 8" of snow fell at Truckee.

1998: A tornado hit Homeland, damaging mobile homes.
Funnel clouds were observed in Homeland as well and in Moreno Valley.
It rained 1.14" in Santa Ana, the greatest daily total on record for May.
7.9" of snow fell in Big Bear Lake, the greatest daily snowfall on record for May.

1997: Lightning started a fire that burned about 75 acres of the Toiyabe National Forest in the
Spring Mountains west of Las Vegas, NV.

1995: A small F0 tornado hit the Porterville Airport destroying two single engine aircraft, damaging two roofs and stripping limbs off trees.
Another F0 tornado also touched down in Fresno for one mile causing minor structural damage.

1976: Palo Alto had a high temperature of 100° F. 

1976: The high temperature at Reno, NV, was 91° F.

1957: A thunderstorm produced heavy rain, gusty winds and hail ranging from pea to marble size in Fresno County causing damage to crops and turkeys.
At the Fresno Airport, 0.29" of rain fell in a little more than 15 minutes.

1927: It was 101° F at Santa Maria, establishing a record high for the month. 

1917: King City had a low temperature of 27° F.

1911: 2" of snow fell at Cedarville (Surprise Valley in Modoc Co.).

1907:
Coldest ever in Bakersfield in May, 34° F.
