Re: [californiadisasters] Brush Fire Closes SoCal's Road to Mammoth

We went through there last Thursday coming home from Death Valley (90 and 18%, ahhh) and it was warm, dry and ready to burn, but with a bit of undergrowth green so not critical fuel moistures.  It was typical high desert growth, some mesquite and grasses.   There was evidence of control burns in some fields, or small fires, causes unknown but well off the road.

Not too far up the road there was snow on the ground (substantially higher elevation).   395 was not as pretty a drive as I remembered but better than that butt ugly US 95 in NV.  ;-)  Fall is better looking on the east side; Nevada just has to be endured to get places we WANT to be.

Blame the typos on the iPhone. It's awkward to type on one.

I've been monitoring the webcams of this area for much of the winter season and it's surprising to hear of this type of fire this time of year.    Anyone care to comment on the vegetation of this area and how the recent storms have or have not made an impact on fuel levels?
