Earthquake

An earthquake shook Iceland again at just before 1 am local time, in the latest of a series of seismic events hitting the country in the last 48 hours. This latest was one of the more significant tremors in that period, with a magnitude of 4.6. The strongest of these events struck just before two am local time on Saturday, with a magnitude of 5.2. That struck 4.8 km NE of Bárðarbunga. The most recent event took place 117km SSE of Akureyri, Iceland. In the past 48 hours, the country has seen 299 total tremors, with the majority being very minor. Although the region does tend to be tectonically active, this still represents a significant amount of activity over a short period.
