On This Date In California Weather History...

1997: A strong thunderstorm produced a wet microburst and two tornadoes in Apple Valley.
Winds were estimated at 130 to 140 mph.
The winds caused building and structure damage.
Power lines arced down and produced fires.

1974: Snow fell across the southern Sierra Nevada and the Tehachapis.
Lodgepole had 8.0", Grant Grove 4.0", Tehachapi 2.3" and Glennville, 0.3".

1949: Southeast winds up to 40 mph caused blowing sand in the San Joaquin Valley that destroyed 2,000 acres of cotton in the Wheeler Ridge area.
Near Coalinga bulldozers had to remove sand that drifted across highways.

1892: A springtime heat wave hit Southern California starting on 5.17 and ending on 5.19.
Temperatures met or exceeded 95° in LA each day.
