A wildfire southwest of Isabella Lake had burned about 350 acres and was about 10 percent contained as of early Sunday night, said Kern County Fire Engineer Leland Davis around 7:45 p.m.
The mountainous terrain was making it difficult for vehicles to get near the blaze, dubbed the Key fire.
"It's pretty much an air show," Davis said, referring to air tankers and helicopters battling the fire.
Some firefighters accessed the incident from Keysville Road off Highway 155, Davis said, which provided the fire's name.
About 300 firefighters were on scene, including crews from the county, the federal Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
Precautionary evacuations took place in the small Dutch Flat community and the Pioneer Point campground.
Another wildfire, the Laurel fire, burned earlier Sunday in Bodfish. Californian photographer Casey Christie, who was on scene, said two people were flown to the hospital by air ambulance: a woman with an injured arm and a man who was having difficulty breathing. That fire was kept to less than an acre, Davis said, and was possibly caused by a weed eater.
A third wildfire, the Sand fire, was reported Sunday evening in Tehachapi's Sand Canyon area. It was controlled in about 20 minutes and burned about 30 acres.
The causes of the Key and Sand fires were still being investigated, Davis said.
