At present the fire continues to be managed for multiple objectives including resource values, community protection and firefighter safety. Fire ignitions are on hold due to poor air dispersion. A smoke Information meeting presented by park officials and fire information officers will be in the El Portal community area today discussing the Avalanche Fire. A planned public meeting for the residents is tentatively scheduled for 1800 hrs tonight at the El Portal Community Center |
| 08/14 | 0800 | Granite 2 Complex consisting of 2 fires (one 30 acres 100% contained, & one 60 acres 55% contained). Fires were a result of thunderstorm and lightning activity that burned grass and desert vegetation. Incidents were located near Granite Mountain, Lucerne Valley, San Bernardino Co and are within BLM CDD DPA. Ground resources are performing mop up and patrol. No further resources are anticipated. Sunny, with a high near 96. Calm wind becoming south between 5 and 10 mph. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph with no lightning in the forecast for today. |
