Subject: [californiadisasters] Wildland: CA-BEU-Reliz Incident

Any estimate on size/percentages?  There be some ugly territory (to work in) there.  Dozer and air show only in some of it.

This afternoon a significant fire began in Monterey County in the SRA (State Responsibility Area) which means in CalFire jurisdiction. The smoke from this was rather impressive as viewed from the North County of SLO County late this afternoon as it drifted southward due to the winds coming down the Salinas Valley from the ocean due to the inland thermal low so typical this time of year. The fire is at about 500 acres with 30% containment at this time with structure protection in place as there are scattered dwellings in the area. The namesake for the incident is Reliz Canyon (and yes, there is a Reliz Fault which created the canyon). This is located west of Greenfield off of the Arroyo Seco to the south. The 2008 Indians Fire got into the area but from the smoke I saw today I'd say this is burning in older and heavier fuels than the Indians Fire burn area would afford.
