Oregon City hosts landslide preparation event Oct. 13
Published: Tuesday, October 04, 2011,
The Oct. 13 event is in the auditorium of the former Oregon City High School, 1306 12th St., from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Landslide experts from the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries and Oregon Department of Transportation will be on hand. Maps will help pinpoint high-risk areas, some pf which may not be obvious.
Heavy rains soak the soil and cause overflowing gutters and downspouts. Properties near slopes can be at risk if rainwater from roofs and surface water is not properly managed. Swollen streams can undermine hillsides and uproot trees and slopes causing unstable soils to start slipping.
The forum will offer tips to help recognize the signs of possible landslide problems and how to check foundations, doors, windows and other warning signs such as failing retaining walls and sagging decks.
The forum is sponsored by the Oregon City Citizen Involvement Council, Oregon City Public Works, Oregon City School District, and Clackamas County Fire District.
