Well as I understand it, as defined by wikipedia 'Eugenics is currently defined as the "applied science or the bio-social movement which advocates the use of practices aimed at improving the genetic composition of a population, usually referring to human populations. " Margaret Sanger advocated using this idea to limit the population of blacks, using her forms of birth control. The Nazis also used this idea in their medical experiments on human beings...their breeding farms where the soldiers would impregnate young"Aryan" women To make little Aryan soldiers for the Fatherland and also to exterminate what they considered the lesser forms of life, Jews and Gypsies. Do i really need to go into how this violates the dignity and rights of the individuals involved? It is very dangerous.

Now today, we have all sorts of ethical dilemmas involving cloning, stem cell reporuduction, various forms of abortion... and I am talking on a cellular level , such as whether a woman will decide to have a baby with Down's syndrome for example... or abort it. Suppose somehow a law was passed aiming at "improving" the quality of the human race by automatically causing every embryo that didn't match up to whatever standards are set to be aborted? Would that be ahumane and decent thing to do?

What is the moral and ethical and philosophical basis for your belief? I'm inherently skeptical of NEVER and ALWAYS in most cases.

John, It is no longer survival of the fittest as a result of the Welfare State (and I realize some forms of social spending are an intelligent investment by society in its own labor market) allowing the weak to not only survive but to also replicate and not only replicate but replicate with other inferior genetic lines hence reinforcing bad traits. Kimmer (who is increasingly becoming a fan of bringing back eugenics in the developed world but this time with a moral and ethical base unlike the first go around a century or so ago.
