Re: [Geology2] Construction errors responsibe for the collapse of the Christchurch CTV building (killing 115 people)

Let's not forget that Jackson, MS sits on top of an extinct volcano. I think it's their coliseum that tops the exact location. Supposedly, it was formed during the Late Cretaceous when the Bermuda Hot Spot traveled beneath that spot of real estate.

There is also the bridge over Lake Pontchartrain...from New Orleans to Mandeville...long and infrequent call boxes but at least they have them. I can't remember if there is any way to get from one side to the other...there didn't used to be but I have not been there in a lonnnngg time. Allison

When Lin mentioned bridges and problems I immediately thought of NOLA, I-10 is a thrill in any storm and any fog. There are huge stretches of divided lanes over water and no way to get tot he other side in an accident.

When Lin mentioned Jackson Mississippi non fond memories came to mind of I-59 and I-20. These appear to be pieces of real estate that heave up and down like a corn field. Actually I have always held they would be a good location to build an US Interstate. It is either that or that is prime evidence of what happens if you build on unstable land that exists from the Alabama line all the way out past Jackson MS.
