This week is National Foreign Language Week. Be sure to take advantage of all the fun activities happening around the school each day. For example, today there is a scavenger hunt about foods of the world. Pick up your questions in the library, find the answers posted all around the school, and turn in your answer sheet by the end of the day to be eligible for a prize.
The APS Arts Metro Show opening was held on Friday, March 3rd in theFine Arts building at Expo New Mexico. Our students did a great job and placed in most categories. Congratulations to the following student winners from VVHS Art Department:

National Honor Society: Juniors will meet today at lunch in Ms. Torres' room in order to nominate officers for next year. Seniors will meet today at lunch in Mrs Jones' room to finalize information on Honor Cords and Bars. If you plan to buy a letter this year, remember that all money is due to Mrs. Jones by tomorrow, March 6th. You must have a check or exact change to purchase an NHS letter. All letters, bars and honor cords are contingent upon completion of community service, tutoring and fundraising this semester.
MESA, the math and science club will meet today at lunch in Ms. Conell's room, F103. We will be discussing the Chamiza Science Fair and lunch clean up duties. Everyone is welcome.
Any junior that is interested in attending the New Mexico Boy's State or Girl's State session this summer please stop by the activities office for more information.
Wednesday, March 7th is Spread the Word to End the Word Awareness Day. This is an ongoing effort to raise the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word "retarded". We want to encourage people to pledge to stop using the "R" word. Take a part of this movement and come by E-Hall at lunch this week to pledge an end to this word for only $1.00. Together we can make a difference and let us promote the new "R" word, respect.
Operation Smile will meet Tuesday at lunch in A101. All members should bring 4 names and addresses for the auction mailing.
The Senior Class will be producing the senior T-shirt. This T-shirt will be created by individuals. If you would be interested designing this T-Shirt, please see either Ms. Wells or Ms. Wiedner for the requirements and theme for the T-shirt.
Don't forget the outdoor snack bar, the Nest, is open by the track field and tennis courts. We sell Subway sandwiches, soups, yogurt parfaits, fruit, andgranola bars. Come get your $3 or $4 meal deal, which includes and entree, choice of side, and water. Your funds help support the Hawks Tennis Program.
Cliffs Amusement Park is hiring for the summer. If you would like more information stop by the activities office at lunch to pick up an application.

Also, Volcano Vista is hosting an International film fest. At 2:30 in the Lecturehall, there will be a different film each day. Today's film is Roberto Benigni's "Pinocchio", a delightful Italian film about a very familiar story. It's great to be a Hawk! = È fresco essere un falco!
