Your VVHS Girls Basketball Team had a HUGE victory tonight against rival Cibola winning in the quarterfinals with a score of 54-33!!!
No. 3 VOLCANO VISTA 54, No. 11 CIBOLA 33: The Cougars led this game in the final minute of the third quarter, but the Hawks (26-1) used a pair of 13-0 runs over the final 8 1/2 minutes to advance.
"That's been our team all season," Volcano Vista coach Lisa Villareal said. "We've been able to turn it on as quick as we did tonight."
Cibola's Kim Chapman gave the Cougars (16-12) a 29-28 lead in the final minute of the third quarter on a 3-pointer.
Volcano Vista went on a 13-0 run from there to take control. Hawks' senior post Schylar Malone, showing no adverse effects of a right foot injury, had six points in that stretch, and Ashley Williams had the last five points.
After two Cibola free throws to make it 41-31, the Hawks went on another 13-0 run.
Malone had 19 points to lead Volcano Vista. She also had four of Volcano Vista's 23 steals. The Hawks forced Cibola into 30 turnovers.
Senior point guard Emma Fenske had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists for Volcano Vista.
Chapman had 10 points for Cibola. Kassandra Harris added six points and seven rebounds.

They now move on to the seminfinals this Thursday, March 8 at the Santa Ana Star Center (in Rio Rancho). Game time is 4:45 PM. Your #3 seeded Volcano Vista Girls Basketball team will take on #2 seeded Clovis.
The winner of this game will play the winner of #1 Eldorado vs. #5 Hobbs (who upset #4 Mayfield tonight) Saturday, March 10th at 4 PM in the PIT.
IMPORTANT NOTE: UNM will be charging $5.00 for parking for all vehicles with fewer than 4 people. State Tournament pass holders will only be charged for parking once per day. Parking is free at Santa Ana Star Center and at Bernalillo High School.
