Los Padres National Forest will be conducting controlled burns in the area

adjacent to Pine Mountain Club, Frazier Park, and Lake of the Woods the brush.

Brush was cut and piled by crews while constructing fuel breaks around and

adjacent to the above referenced local communities. This process will involve

crews burning brush piles when weather conditions and air quality are suitable

for safely burning these fuels. Burning may begin as early as January 27.

If you have questions about the projects, please contact Division Chief John Abell at

(661) 245-3731.

For additional information, contact the Mt. Pinos District Office at (661) 245-3731.

The gold-spotted oak borer has been killing stands of oak trees in San Diego County

Gregg Bratcher, Cal Fire forester for the mountain area said that firewood from out of

the area is suspected as the source of the insect's arrival in Idyllwild. In November,

an infested California black oak was found in Idyllwild and removed from along

Highway 243.  Fire, education and resource agencies are taking their message

about stopping the gold-spotted oak borer to a community meeting to enlist property

owners to help battle the tree-killing pest.

There will be a meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Idyllwild Town Hall, 25925 Cedar St.
