Attention all students! Registration is coming soon! How will you know which electives to pick?  Volcano Vista will be holding its first annual Electives Fair on today through Wednesday during lunch! Many of your wonderful elective choices for next year will be represented at tables scattered all throughout the bottom floor. Come check out all of these amazing classes and discover which ones are right for you!

All film club members for 8th grade parent meeting G184 at 6pm this evening. Broadcast students do not need to attend.

Winterball tickets will go on sale today during lunch in the Activities Office. Students must have their current VVHS student ID in order to purchase a ticket. Tickets are $15.00 all week. The price will increase on February 4th to $20 and to $25 on the 8th. If you are bringing a guest please have the permission slip filled out when you purchase your ticket. Permission slips can be found on the website or in Activities. The theme for this year's Winterball is An Affair to Remember.

Class of 2015 there will be a sophomore board meeting in room (H217) at lunch on Wednesday.

Attention DECA students, did you know that 86% of DECA students maintain at least a B average?  Help your chapter celebrate DECA Days by wearing your DECA shirt on Thursday!

MESA members...if you are part of a team that is going to MESA day on Feb. 5th, please attend the meeting in room H-207 on Wednesday.  You will need to pick up your permission slip and get information about lunch that day.  See  you on Wednesday in room H-207.

The Red Cross assist more than 300 families impacted by single family fire and other disasters each year in the state of New Mexico. Please give to your 5th period teacher on Thursday

Attention Anyone Taking an online eCADEMY class: If you have not logged on to your class yet, you will be counted as a No Show and deactivated from the class.  Students who have not logged on will be deactivated on Tuesday, January 29th.

Faculty/Staff and students, administrators will be coming by during 5th period this week to recognize students that received a 3.5 GPA or HIGHER for the Fall semester.  25% of the student body at VVHS had a 3.5 GPA or higher for the fall semester.  Congratulations to all these students and the school challenges all of our students to strive for a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Attention Faculty and Staff next week – February 4-8 will be our next lunch time faculty/student challenge.  The challenge this 6 week grading period with be "Just Dance 4."  If you would like to participate, please sign up during lunch this week in the Activities office.  You need to have 2-4 people on your team and it is $1 per person to sign up. Teams can be made up of all students, all staff or a mix of both.  All teams will get compete Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The top teams will compete in championship rounds on Thursday and Friday.  All teams that sign up report to the gym on Monday, February 4 for schedule and competition rules.

Till February 5th, in the library, you can place your vote for the cutest class couples! Lets show some Hawk Love and recognize your fellow love birds. Winners will be featured in the Volcano View.

Spanish Club will meet today, Monday, at lunch in room G204.  Please bring your agendas so we can plan some important dates for the semester.

National Honor Society: Our first mandatory meeting of this semester is today. Seniors meet in H209 and Juniors meet in E203 at lunch. We will be signing up for tutoring hours. Many of you must complete your tutoring to letter or earn an honor cord. If you are in the Spanish Honor Society, you should sign up at this meeting to do your tutoring hours during the month of February. See you at lunch.

There are several scholarships that have a March 1st deadline. Please see Mrs. Sandy in room E224 for ALL scholarship information.

Seniors: The deadline for the Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship is February 8th. See Mrs. Sandy in room E224 for the details.

Fort Lewis College in Durango is hosting a Latino College Day on Saturday, February 16th from 8:30 am to 4 pm. Find out more information in room E224

The bowling team sent 3 teams to Artesia this past Saturday to compete in the regular weekly tournament. All three teams participated in the Novice Division.  After the completion of the first squad of 5 teams Volcano Vista stood first , second and third; but had to wait till the 12 teams bowled the 2nd and 3rd squad.  After all the bowling was completed team #2 had finished in 7th place, team #1 was in 5th place and team #3 was a terrific 2nd place finish.  Coach Perry was once more pleased with the effort from all the bowlers who travelled all the way to Artesia and congradulates Chris Arana, Miea Jones, William Kleyboecker, Ashlyn Monroe, and Dontae Ruiz for their second place finish. Coach Perry also wants to remind everyone on the bowling team that this week is the last two practices for most bowlers and urges everyone to be at Friday's practice for the Singles Championships and hopes all bowlers will participate in the regular season final tournament on Saturday.

ATHLETICS:

  • Congratulations to Joseph Clark and Zac Castillo who were named to the 2012 All Harrier Team, which recognizes the top 7 senior cross country runners in the state.
  • Our wrestlers finished in 1st place at the Rio Grande Invite this weekend. We had 5 Champions Willie Chavez, Isaiah Flores, Cameron Huizar, LOLO Otero, and Ryan Hill. Also 6 runner ups: Dylan Tull, Joshua Griego, Steele Desmond, Nate Sierra, Mike Budick, And Devaugn Fuller.
  • All Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen Cross Country and Track athletes (boys and girls) need to see Coach Gilmore about signing up for next years athletic class. Boys track distance runners will have preseason practice Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week and next.
  • All male and female athletes at the Volcano Vista, Track and Field begins Monday, February 11th at 2:40 sharp. Make sure you have a completed physical.
  • Girls Basketball has a game at Del Norte Tuesday night at 7.
  • Our wrestling team has a match in the Ring of Fire tomorrow night at 7.
