Congratulations to this week's students that were recognized for demonstrating the core values of our school Safety, Organization, Achievement and Respect.  Way to SOAR!   This will be the last weekly drawing for this semester.  The grand prize drawing will occur next week on Tuesday during the morning annoucements.  The following are the students that were randomly drawn for our weekly prize:

Piano Recital for Ms. Bork's students, Wednesday December 11, 2013 at 6:30pm in the Black Box.  Everyone is invited!

 

ATTENTION STUDENTS!! The 1st Semester Final Exam Schedule has changed. You can view the changes any time on our website at volcanovistahawks.aps.edu. Put this information on your Student Agenda.

Wednesday 12/18/13, A-day final exams

Thursday 12/19/13, B-day final exams

Friday 12/20/13, C-day make up final exams, as scheduled through administration or for excused absences only from Wednesday & Thursday. Buses will run on the regular schedule and sack lunches will be available for students who need to attend on Friday.

Attention staff and students - our winter staff/student challenge will be Monday, January 6-Friday, January 10.  We will have a volleyball tournament that week and encourage students and staff to sign up for this event next week in the activities office.  Sign ups will be during lunch in the activities office the week of finals. Must have teams of 6, which can be all students, all staff or a mix of staff and students.  Games will start on Monday, January 6 at lunch in the main gym.  Each team must pay $1 per player and are guaranteed games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday will be championship play with the finals happening at the assembly on Friday.

Attention Class of 2014:  We will have a class meeting on Wednesday in Mrs. Wells room during lunch.  Please attend and bring your ideas for Winter Ball.

Art Club members please remember to bring the Kits for Kids Forms, Peanut Butter and Jelly adopt a child items and Gingerbread house materials for our Art Club meeting. See you during lunch in G113

Any group that is participating in the PB & J community service project please deliver your presents to the activities office by the end of the day today. Please be sure to include your child's name card.

There will be an important BSU meeting today at lunch!

DRIVERS ED: If you are interested in enrolling in driver's ed for the spring semester, please listen carefully. An announcement will be made regarding registration during the first week of the spring semester. That announcement will direct you to the activities office, which will have a sign-up sheet and an information/permission slip. Enrollment priority is given to those who qualify and who return signed permission slips consistent with the directions you will find on those slips. Please note that the class meets after regular school hours, 2:35-3:40 Monday through Thursday, for the entirety of the semester once class starts.

Seniors: You must choose your pose for the yearbook by December 20th. For more information contact Mr. Woods in A115.Don't forget you can still order your yearbook online and senior ads are still available for purchase. You can pick up a form in the Activities Office.

Attention All Fashionistas! Friday, December 13th is Ugly Holiday Sweater Day. We will be giving prizes to the winner! Go shopping now!

COUNSELING:

Seniors, if you haven't done so already now is the time to apply for college to begin next fall.  You can apply even if you have not yet  taken the ACT or SAT. Review  the Senior Timeline you received at the Senior workshop to make sure you are on track.

Seniors, the H.O.P.E.  or Helping Other People Excel scholarship is available: This scholarship is awarded to students with a high level of academic achievement, exhibit high levels of determination and drive, possess strong leadership skills, and are actively involved in the community. Deadline is December 15.  Please visit the career center, Rm. E224 or the school website senior tab for more information.


ATHLETICS:

  • G. Basketball defeated Highland 78-30 last night.  They play Manzano on Wednesday at home. This is their first home game and we are asking everyone to wear purple on Wednesday to support pancreatic cancer research. 
  • B. Basketball plays at home tonight against the Jaguars in the Ring of Fire at 7. This is our first home game so let's Black Out the Ring of Fire.
  • Swim – Swim Meet on Saturday had 3 relay teams qualify for state and 2 individuals  – Swim meets tomorrow at the Academy and Saturday at West Mesa Pool.
  • Wrestling –They have a dual meet at AHA this afternoon at 5.
  • The Talons dance team competes at Metro Dance this Friday at Albuquerque High
  • Cheer competes at Metro Cheer this Saturday at Albuquerque High.
